Apprentice Jordyn Weatherley has notched her maiden city winner at the first attempt, scoring on $1.70 favourite Romantic Choice for boss Tom Dabernig on the Caulfield Heath track.
The 20-year-old has operated at an impressive 14 percent strike-rate since beginning her career last year and has been a regular feature in the winners’ circle in the Western Districts and over the SA border.

Three of those wins came on Romantic Choice, and though Linda Meech has taken the reins for the Toronado’s mare past few trips to town, the stable opted to stay in Benchmark 70 grade and claim on Wednesday, naturally turning to Weatherly.
And they were duly rewarded, as the pair sat close to the speed before peeling out in the straight and proving too strong for the fast-finishing Miss Titeline ($12).
It was a joyous moment for Weatherley, with partner Harry Grace, Dabernig, and his wife Cassi all waiting for her at the scales.
“I’m over the moon – I don’t think it will hit until tomorrow morning,” Weatherley said post-race.
“I ride this girl all her work, she’s so tough and I love her to bits. She comes back underneath me and settles beautifully when I popped back… she came out within striking distance and was so strong through the line.
“Unfortunately, my parents couldn’t be here, they’re at my little sister’s graduation, but (Cassi and Tom) are close enough to second parents anyway.
“So good to get a winner for the boss, he’s just been amazing to me for my whole career.
“It’s a long drive back to Warrnambool, but it’s going to be a lot easier now.”
